Nova (ノヴァ, Nova) is the final and hidden pisonic power, the fourth PSI,[1] achieved from combining the three power PSI: Rise, Burst, and Trance; allowing one to transcend human limits, merging with their PSI, first discovered by Asuka Yoshina.[2]

Description[]

Asuka Nova

Asuka using Nova.

At some point, in one of the altered futures, having become a Psychicer himself, Asuka have delved into the limitations of PSI, realizing that the human brain is a universe into itself, something almost no one knows nothing of.[1] In this, he developed Nova, which combines the three different kinds of PSI: Rise, Burst, and Trance, where one becomes on with their particular PSI on a spiritual and physical, down to their cells. Based on the nature of their PSI, it could result in them transforming into a "being composed of psionic energy" instead of a "human", granting them explosive power, which could match or surpass users of the Illumina, such as the WISE's Star Commanders, who were augmented by Grigori too, through removing all limitations on their powers. However, that is if the Nova user can last long enough to defeat their opponent, because of this power's serious strain.[3]

Learning Nova[]

As the inventor of Nova, Asuka has developed different stages of training meant to learn and acclimate to Nova, however, no matter how efficient, this method is still dangerous and could result in their existance being erased.[4]

Nova Acclimation[]

Learning Nova isn't something that could done in a short period under normal circumstance.[5] However, it can be learned through an experienced Nova user, who triggers their cells using their powers and letting the learner adapt to it. Asuka increase the amount of time that the learners can adapt to it through the use of Astral Space, granting them about four days to learn it compared to the one day departure time both Ageha and Sakurako had left.[6] However, the learning process causes excruciating pain, with their existence being threatened if the learner isn't capable of adapting to the Nova cells and energy, something that almost happened to Sakurako.

Requirements[]

With this method only those who have fulfilled one of two conditions have succeeded in learning it.

  1. A Nova learner requires a particular affinity to learning to use Nova, which is often genetic, as Ageha had started getting used to learning it, because his father discovered and invented it. A notable feat, at his first experience with it, caused his afflicted arm to seemingly begin crumbling apart.[7]
  2. External stimuli can assist in learning about adapting to Nova, which was first shown when Ageha aided Sakurako in adapting it.[8]
  3. External and unique items forced via PSI, the Sword Red Bones of the Evil Soul, in particular,[9] which acts as a "mirror" that reflects the user's heart and emotions aided in the completion of her Nova.[10]

Attributes[]

Astral Space Manipulation

Asuka overwhelming Junas with Nova enhanced Burst and PSI.

The foundation of Nova is to transcend human limtations, granting them and amplifies their PSI on a different level compared to before. Most notable, more than that of even the Star Commanders who implanted the Illumina into themselves to amass more power, taking advantage of the futre world's unique atmosphere, as Junas was surprised that such a method was possible. If successful, the borders between the body and spirit are eliminated, causing the transformation into a conceptual being, composed of energy, instead of matter and the particular nature of their PSI. A notable trait is that Nova works as an extension of the user's nature and PSI, as such, how and what it manifests into depends on them, as well as the additional effects that comes with it.

A clear sign of Nova's activation is the appearance or release of a mist-like or stream-like energy drifting from various parts of the user, most often granting them the appearance of an ethereal or otherworldly being. As shown by Ageha, due to rampant emotions or the exact nature of his Melchsee's Door, instead manifested a much darker force, instead of light, while manifesting the same shape of energy.

Transformation[]

Shiner's Death

Light and Dark Sakurako Nova.

After attaining Nova, where the user becomes a conceptual being, the activating of this, resulting in various changes depending on the particular nature of their PSI, however, because there are three wielders until this point, it's unknow how others could appear. For Asuka, he resembled an ethereal being, taking on the nature of his Astral Space. Sakurako could manifest her other self, Abyss, both of whom can fight together, as if the two were one being. And Ageha, assumes a semi-transformation similar to that of his father, then but appears to become a dark humanoid, in response to his emotional state, based on Melchsee's Version.

Advantages[]

Astral Space Artificial Gravity

Asuka off-gassing Nova vapours.

  • Conceptual Existence: The user is no longer considered to be a material being, instead a conceptual one, as long as Nova is being used. As such, the user isn't tangled by the same limitations that comes with it, such as enduring or avoiding attacks that would have killed them under normal circumstances.
  • Inhuman Physical Prowess: The user recieved a notable boost in their strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, perception, and durability are enhanced far beyond human potential. This can be further enhanced with Rise PSI that is also amplified, allowing extreme levels of physical prowess.
  • PSI Amplification: Through the removel of the limtations on the user's PSI, their powers are amplified, augmenting their power, range, and finess. As such, it unlocks new applications and possibilies for their PSI, ones that would be impossible otherwise.

Disadvantages[]

Despite the great power of Nova it has many dangers, risks, and burdens.

  • The down side to this great power is its terrible after-effects. It places an enormous strain on the body and mind. After one reaches their limit, the power disappears almost as quickly as it came leaving the user completely drained and at times, bleeding from the eyes and nose, from the immense stress forced onto the brain and body. A possible symptom of overuse is a coma.
  • Due to Nova's nature, to die while using Nova, or succumb to the strain of learning it, is to cease to exist altogether. Death without leaving a trace.
  • For this reason most uses of Nova are short in duration. However, with experience this can be alleviated. The upper limit of Nova use can be extended as Asuka Yoshina has shown.

Known Users[]

Asuka Yoshina[]

Asuka displayed Nova when fighting Junas and teaching Ageha and Sakurako.

Ageha Yoshina[]

Ageha combined his Nova with his own PSI Melchesse door for a dark berserker state.

Sakurako Amamiya[]

Sakurako evolves her Nova state by combining it with her second personality. This allows her to overcome the limitation of only a single persoanlity having control at a time, instead she can manifest both at the same time, each with different powers.

Trivia[]

  • Because of how Nova works, the increase in power that it provides may apply to more abilties than just those that are psychic in nature.
  • When facing an opponent that can drain PSI or energy in general, this will likely prove to be fatal to the opponent if they absorbed Nova PSI. They will begin to dissapear if they haven't unlocked Nova themselves.
  • It is likely named Nova (likely coined by Asuka, an accomplished and well-government funded Astronomer) because of the overwhelmingly explosive combat ability a user displays that just as quickly overburdens and weakens them, and then dissapears, like the the explosive death of a star which is itself scientifically called a Nova.
